Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, perceives reality, and behaves. It may involve symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thinking, and changes in motivation and marked changes in motivation and general behaviour. These symptoms can significantly impact daily functioning and relationships.
Schizoaffective Disorder
Schizoaffective Disorder is a mental health condition that combines symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, with mood disorder symptoms, including depression or mania. These symptoms may occur together or at different times and can affect thinking, mood, and behaviour.
Delusional Disorder
Delusional Disorder is characterised by persistent beliefs that are not based in reality but are firmly held despite evidence to the contrary. Unlike schizophrenia, hallucinations are not present and other areas of thinking and functioning may remain relatively unaffected.
Brief Psychotic Disorder
Brief Psychotic Disorder involves the sudden onset of psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, or disorganised speech. These symptoms last for a short period, typically less than one month, and are often triggered by significant stress or life events.
Substance-Induced Psychotic Disorder
Substance-Induced Psychotic Disorder occurs when psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations or delusions are triggered by the use of substances such as drugs or alcohol. Symptoms usually develop during or soon after substance use and may resolve once the substance is cleared from the body.
Medication-Induced Psychotic Disorder
Medication-Induced Psychotic Disorder occurs when psychotic symptoms develop as a side effect of certain medications. These symptoms may include hallucinations, delusions, or confusion and typically appear during treatment with or shortly after taking the medication.
Our psychiatrists take a compassionate and evidence-based approach to stabilisation, relapse prevention and long-term management.
